I believe this topic doesn’t need any introduction.
Everyone is aware of Reservation policy in India. Quota has become now a political tool where our corrupt political leaders are encashing their interests. Reservation was given to backward classes when India got independence in 1947 as an aid to develop them. During the 40’s backward classes were in real bad condition, they were treated very badly. That time for the sake of developing those backward classes Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar introduced reservation for the first 10 years after independence to give them equal rights and status everywhere. Fair enough…..
Then the upcoming governments/politicians have been extending the time line again and again alongwith the increase in quota. My question now is…”Do we still need RESERVATION/QUOTA when we are at the edge of 21st century? Do we still need to develop someone at the cost of real talent even after trying to develop them for a long span of 60 years after independence? Is there any measurement when the so called backward classes will be called Developed? Hasn’t enough time elapsed since independence. Shouldn’t we look back and see if reservation has really helped those whom it was supposed to?
“The answer is: “Our politicians are making use of this so called Reservation funda for the sake of their own welfare and to earn votes from our poor Janta. By providing reservation we are making our fellow citizens lame. By providing reservation we have disparaged their zest for rising in life because now they know even if they lack performance sometime, they will be through because of quota. Really if we want to help them in anyway, we should provide them free education, should help them in getting jobs by making them competent enough, should give them free access to library or study material wherever available. We need to expand the educational opportunities and facilities. We need to fill enthusiasm in them to develop in life on their own not with the help of reservation.
“Quote me if I am wrong, “who will like to work when you feed one directly in his mouth, one has to just chew.”
All these things have already been said by somebody somewhere but still there is no change in the mindsets. As mentioned by Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission, “We can’t build the nation with 19th century mindset.” Still the government is trying to imposereservation onto private sector after so much protest and unconsensus. It is quite interesting to note that the private companies work on talented hands which make them profitable. Private sector is not like government agencies which keep on running inspite of being in great loss for few decades.
But private companies can’t survive if they lack in talent. As far as I know, at present there is no discrimination for SC, ST, OBC or General candidate in any private company. If you have talent you are in the company, for a company it doesn’t matter or shouldn’t matter which caste you belong to.
They just want to make profit and survive in the market. They just don’t run companies emotionally or politically. They just need TALENT. IT major Wipro chairman Mr. Azim Premji also said, “No room for reservation at Wipro.”
Moreover, if for a moment we assume that the companies accept reservation policy in their organization and in future they fail by any means and they start laying off people, then there will be protest against that. It is quite political hmm…….
Let me clear one thing here, I have been saying about Talent. I am not saying that backward classes doesn’t have talent. They have. But if they really have talent then they DON’T NEED reservation.
As a final word, I request the government to reconsider the entire purpose of this reservation and see if we really need it or else we need to look at the other ways to help backward classes develop.
I will appreciate my readers to put on their comments on this topic.
Thanks for taking time to read my views anyways…….!!!!
