10 blog etiquette and netiquette you should always remember before touching the blogosphere:

  1. Think before you speak in public :
Once the words are out of mouth, they are out of control. Today, a not so considered comment uttered in public forum can cause an immediate, heated and even career altering response from blogosphere. So think twice before putting them into words.
  2. Be discreet, Be professional :
Although blogs are considered to an online diary, please understand everything you write either on blog or on printed media for public consumption reflect your personal identity, professionalism and your organization’s credibility. Employers also try to visit the job applicant’s blog to see the real person behind the words. Be professional and consider its worth before putting anything on web.
  3. Don’t use your blog to let off steam and anger :
Don’t start writing a blog just to insult someone, criticising something or let off your anger on someone. Be very careful about writing your own employer. You might have to face lot of problems because of that if your employer find it by any chance. And there are very high chances of that….If you don’t want to say something to a person on face, then don’t write it.
  4. Watch your language :
When writing on the web always select your word very carefully. Use Answers.com if you don’t know the proper meaning for some word and use it properly. Don’t write in obscene, abusive and profane language. Don’t write to defame your co-worker or your company.
  5. Stand behind your opinions :
Always stand behind the opinions you provide. Don’t just write for the hack of it. Your readers will soon realize that. So don’t write anonymously. People always like to know whom they are listening to. Anonymity creates an atmosphere of irresponsible, offensive, defamatory or at least inappropriate material.
  6. Do your homework :
Before writing anything for the web, do your homework properly. Set aside and think about the topic you are going to write about. Prepare some framework. Who wouldn’t like properly written matter. Remember the punch line, the 5 Ps, Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.”
  7. Don’t always comments :
Whenever you read any article online, you don’t have to always say something in return. It is not always required to leave a comment. Try to leave a comment only if your comment is going to add something valuable to add to the original post. Else conserve your time and energy…
  8. Be 100% honest :
Whatever you write or say, try to be honest with the reader. Otherwise think, whom you are lying to and for what…Will you gain anything with this lie…
  9. Check spelling and grammar :
Last but not the least, always check for grammatical and punctuation errors. Run a spelling check at least.
  10. Be gracious to readers and commenters :
If a reader leaves a comment or drops you an email in response to a post, be responsive. Change your blog setting to drop you a mail if someone leaves a comment on your post, if you don’t check the comments frequently. Treat every reader and commenters professionally. As a professional write, be ready to receive negative feedback also from readers. At the same time it is not always required to publish every comment.

I am sure, if these etiquette and netiquette are kept in mind while writing for the web, blogosphere will be the wealth of knowledge.
