LiveWorkspace In its latest effort to catch up with its rival Google, Microsoft today announced a free online storage, file-sharing and collaboration service designed for users of its Office software suite : Microsoft Office Live Workspace – Beta.

This service is only available for pre-registration.

Office Live Workspace beta will initially be available in English to a limited number of people. Pre-register now to be one of the first to try it. We will keep you posted about when your workspace will be ready.

Office Live Workspace can’t be used to create documents, but instead will be linked to desktop software through a Save As command in Office’s Word, Excel and Power-Point applications. Rather than a web-based version Office Live Workspace will be an extension of Microsoft’s leading desktop applications. The feature will allow people to store and share documents from Microsoft Office online, allowing users to access their files from anywhere and collaborate on them with others.

While optimized for Office 2007, Windows Office Live Workspace will support documents created in Open-Office. It will also allow users to share their contact lists and calendars from Windows Live.

You can pre-register following the above link.

Google already has similar application Docs and Spreadsheets as an online tool to share and collaborate word, excel and power point documents. Recently Adobe also acquired Buzzword for online documentation. Before all that Zoho has so many online applications that even Google, Adobe or Microsoft don’t have.
