In my previous post, I mentioned 13 FireFox add-ons one can’t live without.
Out of which meebo is the one which is recently (on October 16, 2007) released. It has been just 7 days and it has got 12K users. So what’s so interesting about it.
If you are a meebo user, you already know that you don’t need to install anything on your computer to be in touch with your family and friends. meebo is a browser based instant messaging client, so you can chat with your friends from all major IM networks like AIM, Yahoo, Live, Google, Jabber, ICQ and all. The best thing is you can chat even if you are in your office (as long as not many people get aware of it and this site gets blocked by your network administrator). Complete feature list is as follows:- No install required.
- Browser based messaging.
- Instant messaging even when you are at work.
- Chat with all your friends from all major IM networks like Yahoo, Live, AIM, Jabber, ICQ and Google Talk.
- Loads your friends in a sidebar in your FireFox browser.
- The sidebar can be hidden.
- You can customize how you want to get the alerts.
- It is free.
Since it is the very first release (ver 1.0), so obviously some features are lacking as of today, like:
- You have to always keep the meebo tab open. (Makes the sidebar a redundant feature.)
- It lacks the ability to collapse your offline buddy list.
- No right click ability in the sidebar.
- Doesn’t work with Ubuntu.
- It looses connection with the network quite often.
- Ability to select a small version of buddy list. (helpful if you have lot of friends.)
Even though the above features are lacking, meebo FireFox add-on is a must to have.
