One more advantage in Ubuntu is you can run some of the Windows file like [.exe] in ubuntu using Wine software. Now the Virtual box is avaliable so you can run windows inside ubuntu any time you want without restarting the PC or by swtiching the user. It the most easy to handle software.With a single CD you can install in Unlimited number of computers not worry on Copyright problems. You can share the Ubuntu with all your friends. The Internet is also faster in ubuntu while comparing with Windows.It would not download any bits of data from the internet with users request. So you can easliy keep an eye on the download and upload limits. The upgrade is also free of cost. the new upgrade comes to market in every 6 months. the computer will be more secure if you are using linux. And one more thing you have to know that windows uses linux based operating systems in order secure there there valuable computer datas. The file trasnfer speed is much faster than windows. The ubuntu is very light weight. If you are using laptops and netbooks ubuntu is best one to select. It will not drain the battery like Windows do which means that ubuntu use less resource in order provide maximum perfomance. Recently released Ubuntu will locate the hardware and install the drivers. So just plug and play. So which one will you go for LINUX OR WINDOWS.

It’s been scientifically proven that Linux users fail at life far less than Windows users when doing the same task. When Google (and their huge Linux servers constantly backing up data) decide that they want to take over the world, Linux will be at the forefront. I just hope they have their ext4 stuff figured out by then, nobody wants to go back to ext2.

Oh come on now, add a mere 1gb of files in it and you’ll get a definite bloody crawl. It can even bring the whole system down at times.

I’d much rather opt for Foobar or, it’s Linux alternative, Deadbeef. They both are lightweight and they actually Work.

1. While this is valid in most cases, there do exist Linux distros which aren’t 100% free. Just for the record.

9. I’d like to add to this point that, if for some reason one wants to, it is possible for them to restart their environment instead of the whole computer.
(At least when using Kde or Gnome DE, never actually tried any other out myself.)
Trivial it is, of great grace though.

It’s true that some of the features mentioned in the article are not exclusive Linux thingies, such as Openoffice or multi-messengers, Linux is much worth a check nevertheless.
Given that you don’t expect it to be some sort of a Windows-clone or something..

P.S. It’s also worthwhile to check Linux Mint out. It’s largely based on Ubuntu but is a bit more polished and has a grrreat menu.

Are you serious? NTFS is Microsoft’s move to improve FAT32! In fact, NTFS is much less prone to fragmentation than FAT32! >_<

Am using an Acer Extensa 5620Z laptop with Windows Home Basic.

Clicked on link in your above article to try Ubuntu you are speaking of. But there I was warned not to download now.

Kindly tell me if I could download Ubuntu and try it just as am using Fire Fox and Chrome.
I value your expert advice.

Just to disagree with two of your reasons:
1. You don’t have to get Microsoft Office in ANY operating system, and OpenOffice works on Windows
2. Are you seriously trying to tell me Linux is better for gaming?
