OS on the Go : Fedora 9 brings Operating System to USB
OK, you might have heard about Live CD of Ubuntu and other Linux distros. And there are many tutorials available online for installing them on USB as well.
But Fedora 9 brings the Operating System on the Go concept to masses by providing this option readily available to all.
What do I mean by OS on the Go?
USB media is used for carrying files around, right. So you call USB media a File storage on the Go. Similarly Fedora 9 provides you the ability to carry your own operating system around in a USB. Yes, you heard it right, USB.
No matter where you are, you can always use your own OS with your own settings and files. Whether you are at your friends home, girl friend or may be office, only thing you have to ever carry is the USB with Fedora 9 installed on it.
How to create OS On the Go with Fedora 9 on USB?
- Go to Fedora 9 project to download Fedora 9 Live image ISO file. You might choose to download through torrent as well if the regular download is slow. And I recommend downloading ISO file beforehand else it will take time for the installer to download it for you.
- I recommend using a 4GB USB drive so that you have space for your files as well once you start using it On the Go. Though any USB drive will work. And yes, don’t worry about your existing data on USB or even partitioning it.
- Assuming you are still using Windows (lot many people still do), download the Live USB creator for Windows. Before downloading this file, check for the latest version here.
- Once you have downloaded the file. It is a piece of cake. Just unzip the file and run liveusb-creator.exe. While running the application, it will look as shown below which is pretty self explanatory.
- That’s it. You have your very own Fedora 9 Linux Operating System on the Go. Just use this USB drive wherever you go. Save files and do whatever you want. No need to work on Windows anymore.

- If you are already using Linux may be Ubuntu or something as I do, you might be interested in at least giving it a try but don’t try to install Ubuntu with this Live USB creator on a USB drive. Simply, it won’t install Ubuntu on USB.
How is that??? Liked it…??? Tell me your views about this.
