Northwest merges with Delta Airlines

It was kind of surprising to get a mail with news about the merger of Northwest and Delta.  As a customer, it is not gonna affect anyone for at least 12-24 months in terms of ticket reservation, check-in counter, worldperks and skymiles etc.
The two airlines will keep working separately for quite sometime until the merger process has been finalized and that will be for at least 12 months.  Although Delta and Northwest will eventually be one merged company, each will continue to operate as separate airlines until integration is complete.

The email says,
It’s official! Northwest Airlines® is now a part of Delta.

For you, this means it’s business as usual right now, as we combine to create a premier global airline with a leading presence in the world’s major markets and a best-in-class loyalty program.

You should continue to:

  • Interact with and contact the airline operating your flight just as you’ve always done. So, if you’re flying on Delta, you should continue to check in and check baggage with Delta.
  • Earn miles as normal with Delta and our partners.
