Yesterday only I posted How Gmail can help you create ebooks and magazines. And today I am back with even a better tip for everyone. This tip will help you save some paper and eventually you can Go Green.
Someone once said,
“Save paper, save money, save trees, save planet and hence save yourself.”
So what is that special about Gmail I mentioned in the title. It is again the same ‘Create a document’ latest Gmail labs feature. How it can help you Go Green?
Let’s say you got your travel itinerary from your agent/service like Travelocity, Expedia or may be some airlines like Spirit or NWA. Before going to airport you just wanna make sure you have all the information. So you wanted to print it.
Scenario 1:
Generally you will just hit print and whatever is there in the email, even irrelevant and unnecessary things, will be printed. I am sure that would print in more than 3 to 4 pages. Funny thing is, the relevant information is only on the first page.
Scenario 2:
Now consider the scenario in which you converted that email into Google Docs. As soon as you convert the email into Google Docs, first of all, all the headers and footers related to emails are gone.
- As a trial I converted one of my old itinerary and when I printed (to pdf) directly without any modification from email, that came out in 6 pages.
- When I converted that to Google Docs, I could remove all the unnecessary stuff (simply remove frames). Finally when I was done with all the changes, the document came out in only 3 pages.
- I could have even removed some more stuff and print it in just 2 pages only.
- So how about saving 4 pages in just one email.
Isn’t it great, isn’t it something that can save the planet and help everyone Go Green? On an individual basis, it is a huge contribution towards saving some paper and trees.
Attached are the two file links. (Before and After).
Thanks again to Gmail labs team for enabling this feature. This is one right step in right direction.
What do you say?
How much paper you could save like this?

This is quite awesome. I’ve always used “print only selected text” and selected whatever I needed, but whatever makes it easier for people to go green is fine with me
