Upload photos to Facebook and Flickr etc.using Picasa

Remember, sometime back we covered Pixelpipe on Knowliz, which helps you upload your media files (photos, video etc.) to various online services simultaneously from a single interface either web, Firefox add-on like Fotofox or desktop application like Picasa.
The best thing about this service is that you can define defaults where you want to always send the files as well as send some files to specific locations just by adding some tags (keywords) for different services.
For example, in the image below, I have Flickr and Facebook enabled as default.  So when I upload files through Pixelpipe, they will be sent to Flickr and Facebook both, no matter I add any tag or not.
But lets say I add @Zooomr, @picasa (defined as my tags for these services), to some of the files I am uploading through Pixelpipe.  The files with these tags will be sent to Zooomr and Picasa as well.  Quite nifty, huh…!
Pixelpipe provide various tools and add-ons you can download for any operating system Windows, Mac or Linux.  Check out the complete list of applications available here on Pixelpipe.
But my favourite one is Picasa upload button and Firefox add-on Fotofox.
Method 1: Using Pixelpipe to any service
If you have Picasa already installed on your computer, then this add-on from Pixelpipe adds a new button in Picasa to make it easy for you to upload files directly to Pixelpipe.
Once you add this button into Picasa, you can directly upload photos to any service you have configured with Pixelpipe.  As a matter of fact, you can change those configuration on a need basis and upload photos to any service, be it Flickr, Facebook, Zooomr or any other over 60 services you can configure with Pixelpipe.
(This is because at present this button doesn’t support keywords or tags.  I don’t know if that’s the limitation of Picasa or Pixelpipe.)  Because of which you will have to check before using this method to see where your files are gonna be uploaded.  To upload using Picasa to a specific service such as Facebook or Flickr or both, enable default for these services in Pixelpipe.  Your images will be uploaded to all the default services.
Method 2: Upload to Facebook using Picasa
This method works only for Facebook.  If you are a facebook fan, and want to share your photos with your friends on Facebook, there is another button you can add just for Facebook under Picasa.
Follow these steps to add this button in Picasa:
  1. Go to Picasa application in Facebook.
  2. Click on Install to add this button to Picasa. (It supports all operating systems Windows, Mac and Linux, though it says only Windows and Mac.)
  3. The installer will open Picasa and add this button.  Arrange button location the way you want.
  4. That is it.  You are all set to upload photos to Facebook from within Picasa.
  5. When you want to upload photos to Facebook, select the photos and then click on this new Facebook button.
  6. You will see a window as shown below.
  7. Choose the properties of album and hit upload.  That’s it.  (If you don’t want to approve every photo individually, give this application ‘extended access’.  Otherwise you will have to approve every image you uploaded using this method.)
So now you know, you can upload photos to any service using Picasa as long as it is supported by Pixelpipe.  Since Pixelpipe supports over 60 services right now, it is highly unlikely, you don’t find the service you are using.  Recently Pixelpipe started supporting other files too including PDFs.
Over to you:
I would like to hear from you, if you liked this method or not.  Which is your default upload service?  And does Pixelpipe help you reduce your burden?

    Hello Anurag

I have one question regarding Facebook upload trough Picasa. How can I upload the photos and the tags to Facebook?

    Thank you :D

  3. Hi Sergio,
When you upload to Facebook through Picasa, you won't be able to add tags because Picasa doesn't allow tags as of today. Though you may want to use Pixelpipe in which you can upload to multiple services as explained here – http://www.knowliz.com/2008/10/pixelpipe-helps-...
Other than that it is really not possible to tag photos on Facebook using Picasa.
    Thanks..

    ok :)

i guess i'll continue using iPhoto to upload to Facebook then, though i prefer Picasa's way of working.

thak you for the information and for the quick reply :D

    Hi,

    I have a question:
Is there any option that the similar script can be added to my website, and when any user posts image then it automatically posts to Facebook and Flickr too?

    Thanks in advance!

  9. Hi Massam,
I am not sure if I follow your question properly. What exactly you are trying to do? And what the user posts on your website.
I am sure there are many scripts out there you may use to automate things, but I can help you find the right one I know what exactly you are trying to achieve.
    Thanks

    Thanks Anurag for your response!
Actually the site is about Food Recipe, and when a user upload any food picture, the picture should automatically post to Facebook account and on Flickr too.
Is there any option to do this?

  11. I guess, you will have to use Pixelpipe API or something like that to do
that. You will have to check their website to see if they provide any
    customized APIs for individual webmasters.
You will have replace your default uploader with this API and then provide
users the option to link their Facebook and Flickr account.
Instead, you may provide an option like Sharethis, Addthis etc, where people
may share their photos, articles to wherever they want. This way, you have
to just add one small piece of code to your website without changing
anything. And you provide them the option to share the content everywhere.
By doing that you will in turn make your site popular on various social
    networks.
    Hope that helps.
