As most of you might know, yesterday Ubuntu 9.04 ‘Jaunty Jackalope’ was released. You would have already downloaded the latest release image file from http://www.ubuntu.com and would be ready to upgrade your system to latest Ubuntu release.
But you might be having hard time trying to upgrade because of the slow upgrade process. That’s why I have live broadcast yesterday, the entire upgrade process on my Ubuntu 8.10 notebook step by step using qik.com and my iPhone. Complete upgrade process using this shortcut method takes around 30-45 minutes against around 4-5 hours using the default method.

One trick I wanna tell you upfront – Download the ‘alternate’ iso image instead of ‘desktop’ iso image.

The playlist embedded below contains 4 3 clips from the broadcast recording. You may skip the parts you don’t want and move on to other clip. At the same time, if you have any question, then feel free to ask.
I must say this is the shortest method of upgrading your Ubuntu installation every 6 months when there is a new Distribution Upgrade is released. You don’t loose any data, all your customization settings, applications you have installed prior to upgrade.
So I will strongly recommend following this upgrade process unless you wanna do a Fresh Install. Stay tuned for the Fresh install process in the next post. Feel free to provide your suggestions, and don’t hesitate to ask any question you might have. I would love to help you guys out here who are new to Ubuntu Linux and want a little assistance in this new Linux world.

Hi Anurag,
It seems that video 1 and video 3 in the series are the same.
Thanks, Vishal
@Vishal,
Thanks for the info.
Actually looks like there are two videos which are missing in this playlist.
I request readers to please follow the sequence on Qik/Knowliz.
I will try to update this embed as soon as I reach home. At office, Youtube is blocked, so I can’t update the details. Sorry about that.
Cheers

@Vishal:
Thanks for the kind words.
The embed has been modified to include all the required clips. Stay tuned for the next article in this series showing the Fresh install without messing up with the data.
