As you know there are plethora of Short URL services out there. These short URL services convert big URL addresses to small links so that you can share them easily in less characters/space. — Thanks to Twitter for 140 characters limit and giving birth to this idea.
So for example, a link like –
becomes
http://bit.ly/RJIpL using Bit.ly Short URL service. Though both of them lead to the same web page.
Similarly Knowliz also has got its own Short URL link – Thanks to Google Labs.
Short URLs shared from Knowliz now will be like – http://4.knowliz.com/a01
where ‘4’ represents ‘For’.
Just FYI, the link http://4.knowliz.com/a01 is actually http://www.knowliz.com/2009/06/disqus-intensedebate-js-kit-analysis.html.
If you are a blogger with a Google apps account, then you may also get your own short URL. Just visit http://4.knowliz.com/a02 for complete information.
For my non-geek friends, if you ever want to share a long, complicated URL (link) with your friends, then you may use any of these popular services and convert them into smaller ones. Benefit is you don’t have to remember, copy/paste that long link instead you can just share is tiny one. Your friends will thank you.
Some popular Short URL services are as follows:
Generally all popular social networks and web 2.0 related sites like Digg, StumbleUpon etc. either have or creating their own short URLs.
