09/09/09 – A Special Day in History : What people are saying and doing about it?

Today is a remarkable day in history.  This is the last single digit repeating date for this generation to see.  Next single digit won’t  appear until almost about a century, (i.e. until January 1, 2101).

Technically there is nothing very special about this day, though if you believe in astrology, there might be some meaning of these numbers.  I am not an astrologist, so don’t know the significance of 09/09/09 except the fact that:

  1. 09/09/09 is the same everywhere, no matter in which country you live in and in what format you write the date. Read more about date formats here.
  2. Add all digits of the date and you get 9. (09+09+09 = 27; 2+7 = 9).
  3. September has 9 letters.
  4. 09/09/09 falls on a Wednesday, Wednesday again has 9 letters.
  5. It falls on the 252nd day of the year, digit total is again 9. (2+5+2 = 9).
  6. Multiply 9 by any number and the sum of the digits in the result will be 9. For example: 9X99 = 891; 8+9+1 = 18; 1+8 = 9.

Various organizations has scheduled their events today and some of them are just trying to capture the attention.  For example:

  1. Apple event is set for 09/09/09 where Apple is planning to launch new iPod Touch G3, iPod nano G5 and price cuts on iPod lines.
  2. Lulu has a 9/9/9 sale where you get a $9 off 9 books.

  3. Yahoo Messenger blog finds out 9 thing NOT in 9 for 09/09/09.
  4. In Japanese, the word for 9 is a homophone for the word for suffering, so they consider it highly unlucky. [via Live Science]
  5. And some people are giving prank calls at 999 in UK Emergency Centers with calls like “Hello 999, I left my coat on a bus.”

Whatever it is I am not here to draw conclusions about the significance of 09/09/09, but it is sure a remarkable date.  We should feel lucky to have born in this generation to see these kind of WONDER DATES.

At the very least, enjoy and have a Happy 999.
