15 Must Have Firefox Add-ons for Business Professionals

Mozilla Firefox is the best browser – No doubt about it.  Why it is best?  Because you can enhance your browsing experience with ever increasing number of add-ons.

These add-ons, not only increase Firefox capability as a browser but also increase your productivity.  You can customize it to suit your personal needs and hence get the best web experience while using Firefox.

Below is a list of similar 15 Firefox add-ons which I think are must for Business Professionals.  I have selected these add-ons for professionals because they serve specific purpose into their daily lives like Tasks, Travel arrangements, Meetings and important notes and reminders etc.  Check them out:

  1. Toodledo: Quickly view and add tasks to your to-do list from anywhere on the internet.  To know more about how it works, visit here.  You will need an account on Toodledo to use this add-on.  There is an iPhone App too that makes it possible to sync your task list with iPhone calendar.

  2. Gliider: Gliider is the only travel tool that makes it a lot easier to find and gather travel information from across the web, get travel advice from people you know and the best deals for your travel.  Check out this Demo video to understand how it works – http://vimeo.com/5658660

  3. Tungle Gmail Plug-in: Tungle as we know makes it easy to schedule and book meetings with any professional not necessarily in the same company.  Tungle Firefox add-on is a must have plug-in for people using Gmail and Google Apps.
Other than that you can use Tungle with any social network, Facebook, LinkedIn, Ning etc etc. and have your availability visible to others so that they can also setup a meeting with you easily.

Tungle currently syncs with Outlook (with or without Exchange), Google Calendar, Apple iCal and Entourage for Mac.  There is an iPhone App too to make it even easier to set up the meetings.
  4. Drag & Drop.io:  Drag & Drop.io allows drag and drop of any file (under 100MB) from anywhere on your system (desktop, explorer, finder, etc.) directly into your drop. You can even create new drops (A location where your files are) on the fly. More information can be found here.
  5. Evernote Web Clipper: Provides a button and context menus to easily add a selection or an entire page to Evernote. Works on Windows, Mac & Linux.  Evernote is one irreplaceable service where you can capture your thoughts, web pages or any clip online or on your desktop and even with an iPhone.
  6. WiseStamp Email Signatures: Easily customize your signature, insert your IM & Social services (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter…etc). Use multiple Business and Private email signatures, inserts HTML to signatures, works with Gmail, Google App’s, Yahoo, Hotmail, and AOL.
  7. Page Zipper: Ever read one of those top ten lists or photo galleries where every item is on a different page?  Page Zipper searched for the “Next” link and adds the content of that page to the bottom of the page you are on.
When you scroll to the bottom of that page, it will load the next page again and add it to the bottom.  Try Page Zipper on a website like Time.com where you need to click next more than 50 times to read a list of 50 Great Websites of 2008 etc.
  8. PrintFriendly (Bookmarklet): PrintFriendly bookmarklet makes it easy to remove clutter from any webpage you want to print.  You can use it as a bookmarklet or enter the URL at PrintFriendly.com to have it converted for you.
Check out how it works below:

  9. XMarks:  When you use Firefox and Internet Explorer on more than one computer, you’ll want Xmarks. Install Xmarks on each computer, and it will keep your bookmarks and (optionally) passwords synchronized while working silently in the background.
  10. Open IT online:  Open IT Online allows you to open your documents and images online without the need of any software. It supports Google Docs, Google Apps, Zoho, ThinkFree etc. to edit/view documents and Snipshot, Picnik etc. to edit/view images.
  11. Read it Later:  Read It Later allows you to save pages of interest to read later. It eliminates cluttering of bookmarks with sites that are merely of a one-time interest.
  12. Answers: Answers instantly delivers the information you are looking for. Just point at any word, hold the Alt key (Ctrl in Linux) and click. Upon letting go, an Answer Tip in the form of a pop-up “information bubble” appears on the screen explaining the term.  Really good for finding definitions of typical words you might encounter during browsing web pages.
  13. Echofon: Now a day every business uses Twitter.  Echofon (formerly TwitterFox) Firefox add-on makes it easier to be in sync with your Twitter profile, it notifies you about your followers updates.  Learn more about Echofon here…

  14. Amplify: Amplify lets you clip, share, & discuss interesting things you are reading on the web.  You can selectively clip the content of any article and then share that clip with your followers and friends on Twitter and Facebook.
With Amplify you can share only the relevant information with your followers and if they want they can follow the entire conversation.  They can retweet, reply and comment on your share.  Below is an example:

  15. LinkedIn Companion for Firefox:  The Firefox Companion brings you immediate access to your LinkedIn network as you browse and read email.  Key features:

    • Bookmark profiles and searches for easy access
    • Find a job by seeing who in your network can connect you to hiring managers while you browse major on line job websites.
