8 FREE iPhone Apps to create Podcasts

Podcast, Audioblog, Phlog (Phone log), Audiocast or Voicecast whatever you call it, is a way to communicate with your audience using your voice.  As per Wikipedia,

A podcast is a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and downloaded through web syndication.

There are many ways you can create podcast – some professional and some are relatively easy to use.  You don’t need any special setup or technical knowledge to start your own podcast channel.

As they say, ‘There is an app for that!”  But with over 100,000 apps in Apple store, there is a very high possibility that more than one app does the exact same thing with some variation.  That’s why today I am going to introduce you to 8 services and iPhone apps that lets you create podcasts (audio messages) using iPhone or a regular phone.

Let me tell you that you may use these apps for other purposes also such as creating voice memos, voice messages and recording dictation etc.  So without much ado, here they are:

  1. iPadio: iPadio allows you to broadcast from any phone to the Internet live.  Phone blog, collect audio data, record and update the world, or simply let your mates know what you’re doing using twitter, Facebook and other Social Media & Blogging platforms.
iPadio is really easy to use.  Besides iPhone, it is available on Android as well and you can use any phone to create a phone log on iPadio.  Check out Knowliz on iPadio.
  2. Cinch: Cinch is a new service from BlogTalkRadio.  Cinchcast lets you share your voice, text, images etc. (called Cinch) on various social networks and create your own following.  Check out Knowliz Cinchcast channel.
  3. AudioBoo: AudioBoo was among the first few apps in Apple store to bring Podcast/ audiocast (called Boos) functionality to iPhone users.  AudioBoo has got a clean interface.  Simply record your voice using iPhone app, preview and share it with the world using Twitter, Facebook etc.  All your boos are available online in your profile and if you want you can embed them in your blog too. Check out Knowliz AudioBoo.
  4. Voice Memo: VoiceMemo is not exactly a podcast application but you can use it to record your voice and then email it to any podcasting service.  It is a default app available from Apple on all iPhones.IMG_0174
  5. TumblrTumblr iPhone app lets you record voice which will be blogged on your Tumblr blog.  You may then share that post on other social networks if you want.  If you use Tumblr, you know that you can create a podcast by simply dialing a number from your registered phone.  Check out and follow Knowliz Tumblr.
  6. VR+ Lite: VR+ is an iPhone app which provides you the most options to share your voice recordings.  You may use this app to leave a voice message to someone through email, share that on Twitter and Facebook etc. or blog it.  All messages are created into mp3 format.
  7. Posterous: Posterous is not exactly a podcasting service but if you use any of the above apps, you can share it on Posterous.  Posterous will embed it on your blog nicely which can be shared/auto-posted on various other social networks.  Posterous iPhone App (PicPosterous) doesn’t have this capability at this time.  It allows only image sharing.  Though you may use Pichirp (Free or Pro) iPhone app to record audio.
  8. QuickVoice: QuickVoice is again a voice recording application that can be used to record voice and then email it to various podcasting services.  QuickVoice (FREE) has a file size limit so you won’t be able to share it if it is larger.  Make sure the file size remains in limit else use QuickVoice Pro.

These are some of the service and their iPhone apps I think make it easy for you to share voice recordings quickly with your friends and followers on Twitter, Facebook, blog or other podcasting services.  If you use them appropriately then they can be used to create a decent quality of podcast.

You might have noticed that most of the time you just need an audio file which can be emailed or uploaded to a full blown podcasting service.  I will recommend you giving these services a try and use the one you feel comfortable with.  Remember some services have time limitation, but since all of them are FREE, it won’t harm to try all of them.

Let us know in comments which one did you pick and why.  Is there any other app or service you use for podcasting purpose?
