If you use Facebook then you know it shows friends suggestion in the sidebar. Have you ever wondered how Facebook finds who you may know?  That is not so magical as you may think.

Understanding Facebook Friends Suggestion:

Facebook knows your email and has access to your address book. Same is true with your friends too. If it finds a match, it becomes a suggestion.

Other than that based on how many people you know in a particular group – College, Team, Company etc. more suggestions are created. The later is based on the assumption that if 4 or 5 people you know in a group, know a third person, then you may also know that person too.  Sounds good…

Now lets move forward with the original question – Can Youtube suggest you friends as Facebook does?

The answer is yes.  Youtube also suggests you friends channel you may subscribe to based on your privacy settings.

Getting Youtube Friends Suggestions:

Assuming you have already linked your Youtube account with your Google account (Gmail), edit your privacy settings in Youtube to allow “Let others find my channel on YouTube if they have my email address”.

That’s it, Youtube will show you friends suggestions.  You will see these suggestions on Youtube home page while logged in as shown below:
