16 Most Useful Google Chrome Extensions you should try

Google chrome has officially started supporting extensions like Mozilla Firefox does.  If you used the developer edition of Google Chrome, then you probably had been using earlier too.  But now since it is officially supported, then why not take a look at the most useful Google Chrome extensions.

You need to be using the BETA version of chrome browser on Windows and Linux to use extensions.  Mac users have to wait a little bit more to get extension support.

I am sure soon there will be an overwhelming number of extensions in the library.  But for a start, I have selected 15 most useful Google Chrome extensions you must install.  You may however tell us in comments if there is something you really like and should be part of this list, I can assure you that your suggestions won’t go unnoticed.  I will update the post accordingly or may be right another one with a link to your blog. So below are:Google Chrome Extensions

16 most useful hand-picked Google Chrome extensions: (sorted alphabatically)

  1. Aviary: Aviary extension allows you to take a screen shot of any web page and edit it directly in Chrome browser using Aviary.com tools.  With tools like Falcon, Phoenix, Toucan, Raven and Myna Aviary becomes irreplaceable extension for quick image editing and screenshots.
  2. Brizzly: If you want quick access to Twitter and Facebook, then Brizzly is probably a good extension.  You can share photos, videos etc and get access to lists and all, pretty much everything you get at Twitter.com.
  3. Chromed Bird: Now, if you want quick access to just twitter, then Chromed bird is the extension you will want to grab first.  Chromed Bird is a Twitter extension that allows you to follow your timelines and interact with your Twitter account.
  4. Cooliris: If you have used Cooliris on Firefox, then it does pretty much the same thing on Chrome.  Cooliris is the fastest and most stunning way to browse photos and videos. Effortlessly scroll through media on an infinite 3D Wall.
  5. Evernote Web Clipper: Use the Evernote Web Clipper extension to easily save all the interesting stuff you see while browsing the web. No more bookmarks, tabs, or open windows. See something you like, clip it and you’ll have it forever.  Access all that you clipped on Evernote.com or on your iPhone.
  6. Feedly: You may forget Google Reader after using Feedly.  It seamlessly integrates with Google Reader, so any article you read in Feedly are synced with Google Reader.  Provides you the ability to read all your sources from Google Reader and Twitter in magazine like interface which also pulls in embedded content that is generally skipped or not visible in other feed readers.
  7. Google Tasks: Get quick access to task list in your Gmail account.  It also allows you to easily switch between Gmail and Google Apps account.
  8. Google Translate: Quickly translate any webpage in the language you want using Google Translate extension.  This is an official extension from the Google Translate team.
  9. Google Wave Notifier: If you have got your hands dirty with Google Wave, then you should love this extension.  Because it give you quick access to your Google Wave account and instantly shows you number of unread waves in your account.
  10. IE Tab: No matter how much the web has evolved but some websites still require you to open in Internet explorer to work properly.  IE Tab lets you open these pages in a separate tab pretending to be an internet explorer browser.
  11. Invisible Hand: We have covered Invisible Hand earlier on Knowliz.  This extension sits quietly in the background but starts working automatically when you are shopping to check better prices before you purchase anything.  Check out our previous review about Invisible Hand.
  12. Picnik: Same as Aviary, but seamless integration with other services like Webshots, Flickr and Photobucket etc makes Picnik a perfect tool for quick webpage screenshots and image editing.
  13. RSS Subscription: Somehow all browser shows a little Orange RSS icon when you visit a blog or a webpage with RSS but not Google chrome.  Unless you install this extension.  RSS Subscription extension gives you the ability to subscribe using Google Reader, Bloglines etc.  You can also add your favorite RSS reader to the list.feed
  14. Shareaholic: When you want to share something interesting with your friends and followers, you don’t need to look for Sharethis, Addthis or other social bookmarking plugins.  Instead just use Shareaholic from Google Chrome and share, bookmark or email your links and messages on over 80+ popular social networks and micro blogging platforms.
  15. StumbleUpon: Web browsing is no fun unless you use Stumble.  Install this extension and start browsing pages randomly based on your area of interest.  Give a thumb up or down if you like or dislike a page, StumbleUpon will keep learning and will provide you more relevant pages.  You may start by giving this article a thumbs up if you like.
  16. Xmarks: You don’t need to have separate set of bookmarks on all the computers you use.  Almost everyone now a day works on more than one anyway – one personal and one at work.  Your bookmarks will follow you on every computer you use as long as you have Xmark (formerly Foxmarks) installed on it.

That’s pretty much what I have installed as of now and fulfills everything that was stopping me to use Google Chrome.  Mozilla Firefox is still my favorite browser but I will use Google Chrome for some time to feel more comfortable with it.

Please provide your suggestions in comments and share your love by sharing this post on Twitter, Digg, Stumble and Facebook etc.  Help us get the best out of Google Chrome.

    Yap,

Unfortunately my extension was stolen, even if I submitted to Google. I had the bad luck to have the extension rejected because the extension was using the status bar for Page Rank, and Alexa Rank checker.

In the meantime somebody copied my code and removed the status bar function and publish it…..

If you could report it here https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/oan...

    here is the proof
