Hopefully you are receiving notifications for most of the activities on Facebook.  If yes, then you will be happy to know that today Facebook announced a new feature – Comment by Email.  If not, then go to your Facebook Account settings and enable notifications for the things you like.

With this new feature, you can reply to a comment on a thread by simply replying to the comment notification email from Facebook.  The content of your email reply will be added as a comment to that thread.  Don’t worry about your signature and all.

Now as you can see, within seconds my reply was added to the thread above.

There are couple of benefits of this new feature:

  • If Facebook is blocked at work, you can still join the conversation by simply replying to the notification email.
  • You don’t have to open Facebook anymore to join the conversation.
  • No matter where you are you can still participate to add your opinion.
  • We can probably have more comments on the threads we create because now more people will be able to participate without even visiting Facebook.
  • Students and the people for whom Facebook is blocked won’t have to wait to go home to use Facebook and reply to a thread.
