For all Android users who have a compatible phone running Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ and they use Google Chrome browser, there is a good news.  The good news is, now with proper extensions installed on your Android phone and Chrome browser, you will be able to send links, phone numbers and maps etc. directly to your phone while you are browsing on your computer.

Google Chrome to Phone Extension enables you to send the link for the current open tab to your Android device. Simply click on the phone icon and the link will be pushed to your device. You will be required to log in with the same account used by your Android device.

Features:

  • Send browser links from Chrome to your Android phone running 2.2.
  • Google Maps links launch the Google Maps application on Android.  Other maps link also work, but not natively in Navigation app on your Android phone. They work only in browser mode.
  • Selecting a phone number will automatically launch the dialer with the number populated.
  • Selecting text on a Web page will copy the clipboard to Android (long press a text box to paste on Android).
  • You may choose to open the corresponding app automatically, or interact on your phone notification bar to specifically take action.

Instructions:

  • Make sure you have Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ running on your Android phone. (If you have a HTC or Motorola phone, there are chances you probably don’t have 2.2 yet, because being a custom UI, the manufacturer hasn’t sent the OTA (over the air) upate to your phone yet.  That leaves only Nexus One which currently has it.)
  • Download and install chrometophone-extension-v0.4.crx extension in Chrome.  If you are a Mozilla Firefox user, still you can use this feature by installing the add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161941/
  • Scan below image or download the Google Chrome to Phone Extension chrometophone-android-v1.1.apk on your Android device from Android Market.
  • After installing the application on your phone and browser, start application and follow the instructions, choosing the account to use (this must match the account you sign in to with Google Chrome to Phone Extension on the desktop). Note that Google Apps accounts are not supported at this time.
  • After the setup is complete, you can start sending stuff from you browser to your phone.  See the demo below: (video link)

As you can see, this is one of the best features of Android 2.2 and is really helpful when you want to quickly wanna call someone while you are browsing, send google maps to your phone when you are ready to drive and so on and so forth.

So, go give it a try and let us know how you like it.  Share it with your friends on Twitter and Facebook too.
