An impressive infographics detailing out the App World, whether it is Apple App Store, Google Android Market or Blackberry etc.  There is a huge number of apps available in each store – with Apple being the leader with over 225,000 apps and Android nearing 100,000 apps.

As they proudly say, “There is an app for almost everything.”

Obviously the cost of the app varies, but most of them I find useful are available for FREE.  It is also very interesting to note that though there is an app for everything, most of the websites and services now offer a mobile friendly site which is platform independent.

So you most probably will get the same experience by opening that site in Mobile Safari on iPhone or any other mobile browser of your favorite phone.  Thus, the service or application can reach a far more audience than being tied to any one platform.

Examples are – Twitter, Google Voice, Facebook etc.

Sometimes, the webapps offer more advanced functionalities than the app.  And the other benefit is that it doesn’t consume your precious mobile space.  However, the installed apps give better and appealing experience than using a web app.
