As you might know that Skype for Android is available for all Android phones now after a long exclusivity with Verizon.  However, it is still not useful for most of us because it doesn’t allow to make calls on 3G in US, only on Wi-fi.  Though you can enable that with an unofficial hack.

Now if you don’t want to put yourself into that hassle then you may try another service – Fring.

FringAndroid

Fring allows Wi-fi and 3G calling using FringOut feature to anybody with a phone number in this world at dirt cheap rates.  For example, for most parts of India it costs around 1.4 cents per minute, for China it costs 1.1 cents, for Germany it costs 1 cents and so on.  Check rates for other countries here..

FreecallsIf both users are on Fring then that call is FREE too irrespective of user location. With Fring you can also make video calls if your phone has a camera, it you have front facing camera that’s a plus.  Video calling is available through other apps like Qik and Tango as well, but Fring video calls are also comparable.

Fring DownloadAnd for the best part, unlike Skype you can actually make a call on 3G too.  Call quality is also good, but it could be a little louder on both sides.  And the app by itself need polish, addition of themes, contact sorting and other things but overall it is good.

Check out yourself and let me know in comments or on Twitter how does it work for you.  What else do you expect from an app like that?

You can search for Fring in Android or iPhone store or follow Appbrain widget here to find the app.
